Volkswagen Group UK

Volkswagen Group UK, employ over 900 people, supporting a network of more than 600 retailers, and manage all aspects of vehicle sales for their six brands, from ordering to importing, and advertising to aftersales.

What really sets Volkswagen Group apart is... how they work. Their people have a true passion for what they do, a genuine desire to go further for customers and to give their own careers real momentum at the same time, in an industry that is changing fast to become electrified, digital, and connected. It takes a diverse range of teams to make Volkswagen Group successful, but all share the same aim: to deliver sustainable, profitable growth, drive up market share, improve customer satisfaction, and strive to be the best employer in the automotive sector.

Despite being in the middle of a pandemic, Volkswagen Group took the forward-thinking decision to run back-to-back Undergraduate and Graduate campaigns during 2020. The Undergraduate campaign was launched first in September, followed by the Graduate campaign in October. Both programmes were created with the objective to create a diverse and talented cohort of Future Leaders. As part of a structured programme, Graduates and Undergraduates are given the experience, training and knowledge needed across the whole business, to become an industry expert. Upon completion, they will have worked with six brands and built unparalleled industry knowledge. Understanding how a fast-paced, commercial business works.

Naturally, the Recruitment team were concerned about their ability to manage the high volumes of candidates, particularly when their own internal resource capacity was limited, because of the pandemic-related restrictions. So, it was critical for Volkswagen Group to have an innovative and efficient selection process for both candidates and Resourcing Managers, to manage their 2020 programmes effectively and successfully.

The Programme target was set to recruit 6 Undergraduate and 9 Graduate positions to cover roles across the Group, covering all 6 brands. From digital marketing to planning and analysis, the Graduates and Undergraduate placements are as rigorous as they are varied. They will be given projects with business-critical impact from the outset, and be encouraged to suggest their own initiatives, also having the opportunity to shadow colleagues in other business areas.

Volkswagen Group not only produced a candidate-friendly career site but also achieved results of a higher completion rate, receiving an impressive 82% of those invited successfully completing their interview, a significant increase in the overall quality of hire as well as a 55% increase in diversity which is well above the national average.
